Applicants

Our goal at the Susie Royer Syke Literacy Fellowship is to provide scholarships to certified teachers who wish to access workshops, course work and learning opportunities to advance their understandings of best practices and their effectiveness as teachers. Our purpose is to fund small grants for literacy educators in the form of workshops, classes, conferences, course work, etc.  Applications will be evaluated according to how well they align with the SRSLF mission.

Please note: the Fellowship is not a funding site for entire Masters or Ph.D. programs.  Applicants may only receive grants every 3 years. If you are applying as a team, please limit the team to four members.

On April 10,2010, SRSLF will sponsor a workshop with

Ellin Oliver Keene.

Ellin is an author, classroom teacher, staff developer and adjunct professor of reading and writing.  For 16 years she directed staff development initiatives at the Denver-based Public Education & Business Coalition.

She will be addressing questions on the nature of students' understanding of what they read and what it means to teach comprehension. She will share examples of her work in some of the lowest income schools in the country.
